APHSA is a membership organization composed of agencies and individuals. There are several types of membership that reflect the varied backgrounds and interests of our members.

State agency memberships are for the lead state human service agency or agencies, headed by governor-appointed commissioners, secretaries, or executive directors (which APHSA calls state CEOs).

Local agency memberships are for county, city, municipal, or regional public human service agencies, headed by administrators both in locally administered and state-administered states.

Individual memberships are for people who work in or are concerned with the policy and practice of public human services, including many individuals in the private sector.

Associate memberships are for state associations of local human service administrators, nonprofit advocacy and community-based organizations, and academic institutions with degree programs in social work and public health and human services.

Industry partner memberships are for private, for-profit businesses and vendors to the public human service community.

Over the years, our state agency members have asked APHSA to provide enhanced levels of services in several policy and practice areas, which has led to the creation of several affiliate organizations within APHSA. These affiliate groups represent the interests of distinct programs or professional areas including: Child Care Administrators, Child Welfare Administrators, SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) Directors, TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families) Administrators, and Program Information and Performance Measurement Administrators. Membership in APSHA supports the work of all our affiliates and provides members with access to the

Annual dues from all our members along with targeted assessments from our state members support the work of APHSA and our affiliates and enable APHSA to provide more expanded expertise and customized benefits than any single state agency could purchase as economically on its own.
